Vegetarian Pie Crust Recipes


Just because you choose a vegetarian lifestyle doesn’t mean that you have to sacrifice good food! You don’t have to swear off pie just to be healthy. Following are some great vegetarian pie crust recipes that are sure to make your mouth water and won’t compromise your health.

Simple Pie Crust

In a large bowl, combine 1 ½ cups of flour, ½ teaspoon of saltand 2 tablespoons of sugar. Add in 2 tablespoons of orange juiceand ½ cup of oil, then mix with a fork until well mixed. Pat into a nine inch pan with fingertips.

Spelt Pie Crust

Using a food processor, process 3 cups of spelt flour and 1 teaspoon of sea salt for one minute. Then, combine ½ cup soy milk with ½ cup light oil and mix well with a whisk. Feed the liquid combination into the feeding tube of the food processor into the dry mixture. Process until the dough is in large crumbles and feels oily to the touch. Finally, transfer your dough to a plastic sheet or waxed paper and roll it out then place into a baking dish.

Margarine Pie Crust

Combine 2 cups of flour, 1 ½ tablespoons of sugar and ½ teaspoon of salt in a large bowl. Cut in ½ cup and 2 tablespoons of margarine, and mix until crumbly. In a separate bowl, whisk together 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil with3 tablespoons cold water. Then, mix into the flour mixture just until a dough forms.

Cover the dough and refrigerate for 30 minutes. Using a rolling pin, flatten dough onto a lightly floured surface until it is about 1/4 of an inch thick and then transfer to pie tin.

Granola Pie Crust

Blend 1 ½ cups of granola in a blender or food processor until fine. Then, add in 1/3 cup melted margarine and 1 teaspoon of sugar. If the dough is too crumbly add a bit of water until you create the right consistency. Lastly, gently press into baking dish. This three ingredient recipe is a favorite of many vegetarian pie crust recipes.
